Resolution: 300 DPI
Always set your canvas to 300 DPI from the very beginning. You can't effectively add resolution later, so make it the first thing you do!
Color Mode: CMYK
To get the most accurate color representation, you need to work in the right color mode.
Bleed: 3mm or 0.125" on all sides
A "bleed" is a small extra margin of your artwork that extends beyond the final cut line.

File Format: Press-Quality PDF
Your file format is how you package all this information for the printer. PDF is industry standard as it embeds your fonts, images, and vectors into one reliable file.
